Yep
That's not been my experience with it ... but, I have only used it a few times since I got it, earlier this year. It may help you find cover, well before you get to it, and it may show you whether there's fish on that cover from a distance, but so does SI & 360. It might show you a fish coming up to your bait, but it doesn't tell you if the fish is actually biting that bait (your rod tip sensitivity does that). It doesn't make "catching" them any easier, but it does make "finding" them easier than a 2d or DI unit can. IMHO it's just another tool, a piece of equipment, that makes fishing a little easier ... but can also be frustrating as heck, when you can see a school of fish but not get any of them to bite your offering.
Just like a 20' glitter rocket boat with a 250hp motor on it & 36v 115# thrust trolling motor isn't "necessary" to catch Crappie, your choice of electronics is "your choice" to make & determine if it's "necessary".

When I first got an underwater "fish" camera, I found the same thing, with the camera, I could see the crappie all over on brush or structure but just could not get them to bite more often than not. But it did help save some time if I looked with the camera first and there were no fish, no need to try that spot.
fifty years ago I learned to catch fish i could see in clear water that was next to a ferry dock in a Arkansas lake. they were very hard to catch but kept trying different techniques until i could consistently catch them. when I can see crappie with live scope i use the same technique to catch them. makes it a lot easier with live scope. i don't have live scope on my boat but sometimes i fish with someone who does.

LS will show me if there is 5 fish on a tree,35 fish or 0 fish. Eliminates alot of water. Also shows if the fish in a brush pile are 7-8" fish or 10-12" fish. Shows crappie/whites glued on the bottom. You can see them swimming around. I can snipe big crappie swimming in open water with it and drop down on one sitting under neath a limb. Yes it's VERY frustrating seeing them swim up to my jig and not bite! I still use side imaging to find structure but I use LS to see the fish. Too each there own.
A person should learn something new every day!
What I found with LS is my confidence goes way up knowing there are fish there. Doesn[t make them bite or get them to jump on the hook but it is a confidence builder.

I met an old high school friend and we talked for awhile. I told him about a new (to me) boat I got and put a LS on. He kept giving me crap that I was cheating. When the conversation turned to his deer hunting, I asked if he was shooting his deer through iron sights or a scope. That ended the cheating stuff, pretty quick.
