get a jonboat and move on if you want to be a fisherman. if you want to be an exercise dude, get a kayak and paddle away.
If using a 14’ and two people,,the more stable boat is a 1448 size. That has a 48” or larger width. 1436 with a 36” bottom can be alittle unstable in rough water.

I would go Jon Boat. I still take my kids with me they are now 30 and 34. This year my 3yo grandson will start going. An aluminum jon boat can last a life time. I still have a 1952 Ward Seaking that sees water.

Nothing wrong with getting a little exercise while catching fish.

Although there is nothing wrong with getting exercise if you see me I can promise I didn’t get a kayak for exercise.....lol
Lots of different opinions on here and I respect them all. However, I will tell you friend, I got a 1436 jon with a 9.9 because my kayak was wearing me out!! It was making my elbow sore where it hurt to fish after really long treks and on the lake I couldn’t keep up with wind. I’ve caught hundreds of fish out of my kayak and I love it. However, I prefer my boat.
In lakes, boat all the way. Small River or ponds, yak may be better served for your mission. Kayaks can go places boats can’t, I’ve caught tons of trout on Pikes Peak in a yak. I love em both, but if I could only have one gimme a motor.

I forgot to add a jon will last forever. I’m fishing out of a 1983 jon my dad bought new when he was younger than I am now. I’ve rebuilt the transom twice and grew up beating it up and learning to drive a trailer. Buy it and never look back!!

I'd love to try a yak one day, but it would have to be a really warm day, with water temps in the upper 80's. Water depths about 4', with no wind, and I'd have to stay real close to the truck. The reason it would have to meet all those qualifications is because I would fall out of it. There is no maybe, might, possibly. It would happen. Heck I nearly fall out of my boat at least once per trip. LOL
