I have a couple of those in my box; I'm gonna have to give them a try one of these days. Looks like they work pretty well!
I took the Jon boat out on my favorite pond this afternoon. The conditions looked promising after a cold morning. The temperature was right around 70 degrees, no breeze most of the time and a light overcast. I was initially looking for Bass with a weightless finesse worm. I had some other lures lined up but never got around to them. I caught some bass but also had a lot of taps from Bluegills. I decided to follow up these taps by throwing the Beetle Spin on my BFS rig. The result was a lot of Bluegill, some bass and several Crappie.
The BFS rig allow me to throw the Beetle Spin right up next to the bank. Quite a few bites happened there, in very shallow water. I had never used a Beetle Spin like this before. I was also able to throw in and around some brush piles and blow downs to good effect.
Pulled several off this tree including this bass that nearly swallowed the Beetle Spin!
I wound up putting 30 fish in the boat in about 2.5 hours of fishing. Sure was a lot of fun. Even landed a 4 pound bass on the finesse worm. I guess the fishing were eating ahead of the storm rolling in.

Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
Had the same experience last week, but for some reason the only fish I caught yesterday was a small bass on it. Could be the lure I was using because fish were finicky. I also discovered some amazing stuff and experienced the usual satisfaction when one does.
Nice fish and congrats on the new discovery re: a new way to use the overhead spin! (on a baitcast no less!!)

Congrats!
Those are some really nice looking Gills !
It is a great looking pond and the fish that come out of it have some of the nicest colors and markings. Every fish caught is a treat.
Another thing I noticed was that some of the bites were as the Beetle Spin was falling, before I even began to reel up. I guess the blade still flutters as it falls. Plenty of new stuff to learn in this fishing journey.

Right on both accounts. I learn something on almost every outing and document much of it with photos.I guess the blade still flutters as it falls. Plenty of new stuff to learn in this fishing journey.
Long ago I modified a long arm spinnerbait into a short arm and noticed how the Colorado blade helicoptered on the drop making the rubber skirt flutter more on the hook. Worked great for bass why not for crappie?!

The Beetle spin makes you question the whole idea of a snap swivel being unnatural on a jig, and causing you to get less bites. The Beetle spin is like a huge snap swivel, yet the fish don't seem mind.
