I'm a fan of smaller rigs. Looks pretty slick.
Finally found a picture of what the boat looked like. This one is exactly like his. without the trolling motor

I think it would be a great first boat. I'm hoping he will decide to come down on his price.

A way to get him down on price, is ask the year of the boat motor and trailer. When he tells you, say that it's awful old. Also I would want a ride in it, to make sure that the motor runs alright. Mine is a 1978, so you see why I say that.

I'm sure it's a good rig if the motor runs OK. It's simply not worth $2000. The motor alone is worth maybe $500. Boat on a homemade trailer another $500. Offer him $1000 bottom line and let him think about it. If he does some research he'll realize what it should sell for. $1000 is generous actually.
It's worth what you'll pay for it if you want it.
Boating, in no way, makes fiscal sense.

Just happened to stop and look at a game fisher today. He thinks it’s a 1973 model. He’s asking $550 but would take $525. No motor. Pic below.
A cheap boat would get my whole family on the water together safely hopefully. Little stressful as young my girls are in kayaks. Once older though won’t need boat. Sure wish my dad hadn’t sold his ranger!
Looks like she's in pretty good shape too! i think the game fisher is perfect for that. my Brother in law got his for him and his young son to be able to go fishing. I just did some work for some people and they have what I think is about a 2007 champion looks like maybe a 16' it hasn't seen water in a while but i may see if they are interested in selling. Kinda leary as it would need a bit of work. The clear coat is burnt on it. and needs seats but for the right price could be a fun project.
I'd jump on it before somebody else did this weekend. There's several good buys on smaller tiller steer outboards right now on Craigslist locally.

SuperDave, is it a 14 ft? The trailer looks to be way newer than the boat, and would almost be worth that price. Looking at it, thinking that it takes a long shaft motor. If you look at the other boat, the transom is shorter, and is why I added to mine, so I could use a long shaft motor. Before someone asks why I added to the transom. It isn't any fun, when someone flies by, and almost swamps you more than once, and instead of fishing, you have to start bailing out the boat. Sears Gamefishers, there were several different styles. From 12 thru 16 ft. But they were actually made by MFG.
