Honeyman thanked you for this post
I am an X bass guy and I always hated the old cable steers you could never take your foot off of the pedal so you were always stuck unless you switched off the motor. I then went to a Terrova electric steer only bad thing was no feed back from the pedal to which way the motor was pointing, was not too hard to get used to looking at the trolling motor head. Now older went with the Ulterra self deploy and stow only way for us old folks to go, I use my foot pedal way more then the remote it responds very quickly it does take some getting used to as it reacts quickly and will over shoot my chosen course line. The new Ulterra with Blue Tooth has the new foot pedal which has all the controls right on the pedal my old Terrova did not have spot lock on the pedal, now you can raise lower stow deploy right from the pedal. My biggest gripe with Minnkota and has always been is the roller speed control there is absolutly NO feed back when you go to move the dial.
I am on my second Ulterra you would have to pry it from my cold dead hands, both of the ones I have owned have been flawless. The only reason was I had the first Ulterra and spot locked just sucked so I bought the Blue Tooth model day and night difference in spot lock.
Bricks; thanks for the reply, the fact that a cable steer will veer off course if trolling and you remove your foot from the pedal is a major issue with me. I now have some issues with my hips, especially when sitting for hours with my foot on the pedal.
Spot lock seems like it would be worth its weight in gold to maintain boat position when putting fish in live well also.
Unless something happens to change my mind I will be getting an Ulterra soon, I have cataract surgery coming up in Sept I am hoping this does not affect my fall fishing plans which include the new motor.
I have a 70 lb Edge on boat now and am looking forward to getting rid of that monster cable that seem to always be in the way.
Did you mount your Ulterra on a quick release bracket ? I am planning on it in case boat had to go to shop for some reason.
We have the Ulterra. We use it to lay a track and then follow the track, forward or back. That leaves us to fish or do whatever. Would never want to not have the self deploy/stow and track capabilities. The only problem we have found is that when following a track and you go under a bridge you can lose signal and the trolling motor goes crazy trying to find the track.

Thanks Ranger R61,, I am looking for all the info I can get. I have watched many videos of different tm's is the Ulterra loud when it makes course adjustments ?
I did use a removable mount for my Ulterra two reasons I can put it on the deck under the cover for when traveling, and if it needs service, easy to remove. I should say easier as I have a Helix 12 SI mounted up front, the way I have the transducer rigged now is much easier to remove, couple of minutes and the transducer is off.
