Baby Shad. Caught more fish with that in the last year than any other two or three lures combined - crappie, gills, bass and catfish.

What style Jig Heads / hooks are you guys using w/ the Baby Shad?

I've always used standard Ball & Round Head Jigs w/ J-style hooks on my soft plastics, but I'm thinking about trying some w/ Sickle hooks.

Just wondering what some of y'all's current favorites might be for casting jigs for medium / average size crappie?
    What, no hogs ?!

For any soft plastic lures, simple unpainted, bronze hook, ball head jigs - no bait grip barb. Sizes: 1/32, 1/24, 1/16 oz.; J hook sizes depending on lure size: #8, 6, 4 (8 the smallest). Threw my sickle hook jigs in the garbage years ago.

I know they are not everyone's choice, but just wondering what didn't you like about the sickle's? Do you fish alot of heavy cover?

No, I'm more of an open water angler. Never had the patience for anything but light weeds.

I/32oz round jig heads with various colored BABY SHAD, I do use 1/16th but prefer the 1/32. #4 or 6 hook.

That just about says it all. I always carry one rod 1/32 with the baby shad. The second rod has 1/32 and a Lil Hustler crappie tube.

Ball and minnow heads fro 1/64 to 1/16 and a baby’s had in a natural color does it for me most times. Opening night, double silver rainbow, monkey milk, blue thunder(I use lots of those), and crystal. Others too. When casting, retrieve style and speed makes a big difference. Just fast enough to stay off the trash.

My No. 1 would be a straight tailed plastic such as the Baby Shads, followed by paddle tails (i.e.: Slider Grubs) and then Road Runners.
