Southern crappie rods are great

I use 9 ft southern crappie rods for casting longer distance and Ed has a 6 ft dock shooting rod I’ve started using for shooting docks that is sweet. Give Ed Duke a call at southern crappie rods. I think that 6 ft rod runs around $35 -40
Can’t remember what I paid for it , I personally use all his rods for long lining and spider rigging but like Matt said it’s what ever you have confidence in.

5.6 rods work great for me when it comes to dock shooting and casting under limbs, etc. They cast light jigs like 1/32 very accurately when picking apart shallow cover when in tight conditions dodging limbs at the backs of creeks during the spawn.
I like the Field and Stream for about $40 and the Berkley lightning, and Berkley cherrywood around $30-$40. I’d look for something that allows you to touch the rod blank with a thumb or finger so you can have great sensitivity. I use 4lb test mono on these ultralights with a reel that has 6 or more ball bearings. Its super smooth light and has enough back bone for the surprise big fish that can happen. I’ve landed 9lb LMBs, carp, catfish, and a 6lb hybrid on these and they can handle the work.
Good luck
