it is kind of fun . you will need to learn how to land them on a long pole . it aint easy in tight quarters to handle a big fat mad spring crappie on a short line and long rod .
I under arm the pole and drag them right to me and use a trout landing net that's over my shoulder to get a chance to hold said fishes .
careful when moving in the sticks as underwater limbs create quite the tripping hazard and once you tump over its about impossible to get back up with water to the top of a pair of chest waders .
whatever the water depth is on average I set my line about that depth and just doodle the jig slowly back and forth and sometimes in figure eights or circles in the openings that look fishee .
one thing for certain you often get back in spots some folks cant reach and ketch some real big ole crappie .
