I will say this get a bfs reel and the right bfs rod from aliexess. It will make everything much easier. I was out playing with some of my bfs gear today catching crappie and it’s a blast.

If you never use baitcaster before, and wanna start with crappie jig, you are due to a lot of headache. Even with 1/8 oz jig plus 2” plastic, it is still well below 3/16oz. For new ppl that wanna try baitcaster 3/8 oz is a good start. A lot of new reel these day can cast 1/4oz very well with a well trained thumb.
For crappie jig with 1/32 - 1/16oz jig, you would need special reel or reel that modified with shallow spoon, and special UL rod that come from oversea, not US market. I can cast down to only 1/32oz trout magnet but distance is still not good or not fishable for me. Even I can cast with casting gear but I still build up my spinning (3 setups) for special need like when fish with Float, fish in windy situations or fish with 1/32oz trout magnet. Anyway casting light lure is not new thing for me and I’m not into the hype of BFS. I started my journey about 10 years ago using casting gear to fish for trout.
Just like poster above mention, you might start of with Chinese rod and reel from Alixpress, Tsurinoya and Kuying is a good start. I wouldn’t spend for shimano aldebaran if you don’t know you gonna like it. Mine is all daiwa alphas and pixy with shallow spoon. Rod are Tsurinoya and Majorcraft. Line are 8lb Sufix 832, PowerPro Superslick and 24lb Gliss line.

Another note, I went out again today with both spinning and casting. I can tell you I can cast 1/8oz tiny trap on casting as far or some even further than spinning setup. But of course if you go for extreme distance, once in awhile you would have some professional over run (backlash) to fix. Both rod are about the same length, power and action (a little softer on spinning), the reel, casting is the one above with 10lb super slick, spinning legalis LT 1000 with 4lb Fins windtamer.
I have heard many time spinning cast light lure better, but no one never said how far. I can only cast 1/32oz trout magnet about 25-30’ on my US model UL Presso rod which is not much better than my casting setup. I have another UL spinning rod with solid tip coming from China, will see if that improve my casting distance.

I watched a you tube video last night by raWr Fishing who changed the bearings to a stainless/ceramic bearing set-up from Spool Hi - Speed Bearings. Now he was using a KastKing Sparticus reel and had changed the spool to a shallow depth spool. Wasn't to expensive, albeit I would have to do it in stages, as I'm on VA disability and Soc. Security Disability so the funds are a bit tight...

It will cost you more than what you would pay for just the cheap Chinese reel. The Kastking reel would cost somewhat 40-50bucks plus 20? For shallow spool and bearing another 15-20bucks.
I think that guy post in here from time to time and he uses all kind of BFS Chinese reels. He might be able to sell you the set.
I don’t think, you don’t need new bearing when you first start. Try to cast at least 1/8oz jig head plus plastic or 1/8 oz roadrunner. This way you can get away with Light Rod that sell here in US. If you gonna go down to 1/32 - 1/16oz then you would need a little more soft tip rod but enough backbone and BFS bearing would help a little. This type rod you might have to go with UL solid tip Chinese rod (Ajing rod)
I have old 7’ Daiwa spinmatic casting, that I can ship to you to try out. It a little too soft (noodle) than my liking, but I started with this rod casting 1/8-1/16 inline spinner.
This is just me talking after reading this thread. Why?

Here is a good article about the background of this type of fishing. It was never meant to take the place of spinning gear. You can only go so light with this gear.
