Not trying to be a wise guy but why the need for 2 units with Livescope?
I can maybe understand the need for mapping on a seperate unit if you have Livescope on a 9 inch unit but really I don't ever see the need with a 12.
I see more and better live information on Livescope than 2d, down or side. I can see under, behind, both sides and forward live by moving my transducer.
If I position my boat within 80 or so of brush I can easily find it with Livescope
If I need a map I can do split screen with map and Livescope and easily switch to full screen of either with one touch.
I had a 9 inch unit for almost 6 months, never used the map or missed it or the other views, 100% Livescope. The 12 just makes it better for my old eyes.
Roy,
I believe it would be because he is running a Minnkota with I-pilot link which connects directly to his hummingbird unit and allows him to control his trolling motor. Something that cannot be done with a Garmin Unit.
Depending on the type of fishing, many guys run miltiple units. One as a dedicated map/gps and the other to facilitate their fishing needs. Others prefer the mapping features of one particular brand but the side imaging and down imaging of another. Again, depending on the fishing, some have one unit hooked to a transducer on their trolling motor while the other unit is hooked to the transducer on the rear of the boat. Tons of reason and variables but those are just a few of them.
And you may be assuming I bought the LiveScope first. I bought a Helix 10 Gen 2, Mega everything and was doing just fine with DI, SI, navigation, etc. then just had to have the Garmin 8610 asv in 10.” It is the best you can buy for being a 10” so I decided to use the Helix 10 in split screen with DI and Navigation which allows me to see structure and my waypoints. Instead of throwing a buoy I use the Nav waypoint to orient me and the LiveScope to see what I am fishing. I don’t have to use any of my Garmin screen by splitting it and have the whole palette for LiveScope. Works great thanks to Cornfieldcrappiegear.com and their fantastic double mount. I could give the Helix 10 away and buy another transponder but doubt I would use the other functions on my Garmin. And, yes, the next one will get rid of it all and be replaced by a 12” or greater when they make it. Respectfully, Dennis on Lake Austin.
