I'd check with the wildlife

Does anyone know if it is legal to place your own brush piles in Shearon Harris? If it is, do you need a permit or are there certain regulations that need to be followed? Any idea who to contact about the subject? Any info is appreciated.
Rabbits or herons?
Just kidding

We put several brushpiles in Harris and have not seen a single crappie on them. I'll never go to that much trouble again, especially when I can get all the crappie I want out chasing shad.

No reason to drop any brush piles. There's so many already there all you need to do is use your finder to locate them. I've seen so many boats drop trees and PVC structures that I figure most every cove in that lake should have something. Makes it hard to catfish in the coves but I do catch several crappie over them.
I asked a buddy that works in the environmental branch at Duke Energy and here is his response
"Duke does not allow individuals dropping brush into lakes given it has to be permitted under a Corps 404 Nationwide Permit and May create navigational hazards. If anglers are interested in providing more habitat, please have them contact the WRC and coordinate efforts underway through that agency’s efforts underway on Harris"
Thanks todoboien. Very good information to have. Would be interested to see what the WRC already has underway at Harris.
They've got a few fish attractors and have in the past cut and cabled some trees. There are sections of that lake that have lots of brush extending from shore into deep water.
