That sounds like some good action. That Crappie is a beauty. Good report.

We had a few hours to fish today, so Walt & I hit the Oxbow on the Ct. River this morning. We launched a bit after 8 am, with the air at 64 degrees and the water at 70. Winds calm to light at times.
This guy was giving us the ole "evil eyeball" upon approaching our first shallow area to try:
Bald eagles are common here, along with an osprey or two at times. This one was actually a pair that had looked us over several times today. Picture quality was not great as I was looking directly into the sun. But you get the idea.
We did not knock their socks off today however. When we pulled off at 11:40 am, we had caught & released 19 fish; 2 yellows and 17 crappie. Walt lost a nice northern at boat side, but that didn't count in the numbers. He did however catch the "fish of the day", landing and releasing this beautiful crappie:
All the other crappie we caught were substantially smaller than this one. And the perch were small as well:
We caught most of the fish on the gaudiest colors of curly tails and/or Slider Grubs. They just didn't show much interest in the Road Runners this trip. We caught most fish in 3 to 5 feet of water, having to battle the extensive weed growth at this time of the year, casting the shallows. We also side pulled the deeper basin between 12 to 18 feet of water. Not productive at all. Even though we did mark some fish in the deeper sections:
One of our members here - Cray - helped us out significantly, by giving us a replacement sonar to this unit! Unbelievably generous. A true crappie fisherman's friend. Works fine as you can see Cray! Thanks muchly.
Believe it or not, we didn't get any bluegill this trip. Unusual for this body of water. Great to finally be out on the water again with Walt. It's been way too long. Hopefully, we can increase our outings over the next couple of months. Thank you all for listening and God Bless America!
