You’re worrying too much. There are days that none of us can make a bite happen. Yesterday on Barkley was one of those days for me. Keep digging and trying different things.

I trolled cranks on Barkley on Saturday near the main channel and Sunday I went to Kentucky Lake and fished in Little Bear. I varied my speed from 1.5 to 2 mph and the length of line with planner boards was 50 to 75 feet. We saw fish and bait fish on the depth finder at 7.5 to 12 feet deep. I trolled Pico and Bandit 200's and could only muster 2 catfish. I targeted 13-20 feet of water. Any help would be appreciated as I am new to trolling.
Thanks,
Denny

Fished Little Bear also. Were you out towards the mouth of the bay? We went all the way back in 14 to 18 feet and caught a few plus a 5 pound bass, a 3 pound bass and a big Gaspergoo!! 1.8 mph on Jenko lures. Chartreuese/black was best but pink too. Let out more line. I'm pulling at 100 on one rod and 80 on da other. Good luck!! Some of the fish here were caught in Little Bear.

I don't know beans about cranking, not my cup of tea, but do know a little about summer crappie fishing on KY/Barkley. Been several years since I haven't caught a limit in June. If you aren't catching them then you either aren't on fish or they are not liking what your showing them, they feed voraciously this time of year. Not saying this to brag, just to point out that you shouldn't accept "they aren't biting" thing this time of year. I will say they can be very picky about what they eat and how its presented, but they are going to eat if you do your part.
For me, the Jenko baits have been working just a hair better than the Pico. Lately I have fished Big Bear, Little Bear, Sugar Bay, and Demumbers...all were good for about 3 or 4 crappie each time in about a 4 hour trolling session, which isn't many but they were all big ones, and I have had several bass and catfish in the mix too. The crappie I caught have all been at random too, from about the middle of the bay to the mouth. I've been trolling at 1.5 mph, no planer boards, with 80 ft of line out being the best. I set my depth finder to highlight depths between 14 ft and 18 ft deep and try to stay in that range. Little Bear had a bunch of Asian Carp in it the day I fished it, I did not catch a crappie in the area where the Asian Carp were hanging out. My last time out, which was this past Saturday, I did catch a nice crappie on the main lake along the secondary channel in front of Moors, that's been the only one I've caught so far outside of a bay.

I'm no master at it yet, but that's what has been working for me. If anyone has any additional pointers, I'd love to hear them!

What the heck is a gaspergoo?
Pulled Pico's on Barkley on Sun aftetnoon and Mon, Ky Lake on Tue. Hit and miss on Barkley, but did better on Ky.
Targeted 20 water, plus or minus a couple feet. Ran 80-110 feet line, at 1.5-1.7 mph.
Look for 20 ft deep water adjacent to shallower flats. When the 20 ft water was the "flats", with shallower water being the ridges, we dudnt do good. Needed the shallow water to be flats, with deeper water being the drop off.....at least on that day.
