Finally had a day I could get on the lake. Flew back Friday from Mexico, and decided to take the wife fishing. Got started at 7:00 AM and finished at 5:00 PM. Caught 10 fish , now I’m not the best crappie fisherman, but not the worst. I could found a few, but could not get them to bite. Used jigs and minnows, no luck. I believe this was my worst day fishing green.

Yeah competition just does me in. Makes me have visions of big fish getting away.

I've went to green when everybody was limited out by 11:00 under the 30 fish limit and released the keepers I had because nobody needed them. We all have days like that.

I have seen that a couple of times in the pass couple of weeks. Have to hit them in the head to get them to bite.

JRJ, I've been there. I drove 8 hours to fish a lake for a week. 1st day I found about a 5 acre area in a bay the 1st day with crappie. Caught a decent crappie about every 5-10 minutes until we caught our limit of 30 fish each. Man, I thought I had a 'pattern'. Went back next day, same area, tried the same depth, same bait, weather had not changed much, but nothing for 3 hours, and only caught 8 fish in 8 hours. So, just when you think you've figured them out, they slap you in the face. I finally had my best luck fishing with minnows 2-3 feet from bottom in deeper water (>6ft) during this trip. Found this is my last resort in most cases when things got tough and they are NOT on the banks.
