If the Good Lord had wanted us to eat meat raw, he wouldn't have given us fire. I like a steak rare, but I'm not eating fish that isn't cooked throughout. I've seen too many worms in them.
I was listening to a Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokesman on the radio about fishing . He stated he had some health issues and suspected parasites from eating raw fresh water fish in form of Ceviche. I have seen several post about making this from Crappie and Bream . The lime juice does not kill parasites . I remember reading about people becoming infested eating pickled fresh water fish . I will take my Sushi rolled in cornmeal and deep fried .

my kids love sushi which I find repulsive and stupid to eat with all the worms and bacteria in them. CDC has a great crappie bisque that is outstanding. you can use crappie in a fake crab salad which is really good. just use crappie for the whitefish they have in recipe as it is very versatile.
"Sashimi" must be frozen for a certain length of time at a certain temperature before it can be consumed according to state law in Texas
the freezing done properly kills any parasites and organisms that might be in the "raw" fish .
most people don't know this and think its ok to eat raw fish right from the water .
that's a BIG NO NO , did you ever see the guy that ate the raw crawdads around the campfire on the monsters inside me show ?
and also on a side note "sushi" isn't the term for raw fish ,it means rolled in rice
Sashimi is raw fish yawl
A lot of guys up here make (Pickled Northern Pike) its recommend that the fillets be frozen for 24-48 hours first to kill a the nasty stuff.
Great information. Thank you
I tried Ceviche for the first time last week. I was in Jaco, Costa Rica which is right on the Pacific Coast. I assumed it was Tilapia but it could have been any salt water species I guess. I enjoyed it, washed it down with a Pilsen Beer and had two for one Blueberry Daiquiris for dessert.

Tilapia is a freshwater fish that is a known carrier of many different parasites. It’s also quite high in the Omega acids considered to have negative heart health implications. They are a good fish to stay away from!

gave a friend some fresh crappie filets yesterday and she came back with ceviche and it was good but I was wondering so went on here and DOY! won't do that again, will only use filets frozen or just cook them up
