My bird with decoy

I use a full strut decoy for turkey hunting. I was just curious if any of the members use one. You have to be careful where you use one so you don't get shot. They are that realistic but boy do they work. The birds usually come in mad, ready to kick my decoys butt. I shot this bird this morning. He weighed 20lbs,10in beard,1in spurs. This is the 8th gobbler I have shot over this decoy.

Yep, used one for the first time last year with any regularity and killed one with it towards the end of the season, and killed another with it this season. Crazy how good they work. I firmly believe I wouldn’t have killed the bird I killed this year without it. That being said, I typically don’t carry one in the hardwoods when I’m running and gunning, but in the fields I really like to have one.
I did have one bad experience in Iowa a few years ago. Had a bird come in and got to where he could see the decoy and he buggered and left. I had another guy with me though, and I’m still not 100% sure he didn’t move and spook him.
Only ever had one bird back away from mine but I think he got his butt kicked earlier. I don't use mine in the woods either. I want to be able to see my surroundings well so if someone comes in on me.

This decoy has changed the way I hunt. I have seen tom turkey heads change color from red white and blue to deep red. They were so angry that a sub dominant bird is strutting for his girls. No longer do gobblers strut out at 70 yards, out of gun range, for your hen decoys. They come trucking right in.

It really is crazy how quick it will make them act dumb (not always but a lot of the time). Last year the one I killed came in a dead sprint from over 200 yards and the one I killed this year was over 150 yards away when he first saw it, and don’t think I would have killed him without it.
I hunt the mountains so don't have a need for one most of the time. I have heard they work great.
