Awesome YoBuck!
I figured it would be something like that. Many companies recommend 15lbs yet all of them are small tubes. We do the same and go over. Especially on our heavy hitters. Spot on assessment.
Well it just so happens thats been my bag for close to 50 years. Thats all we do, and there are lots of others who do also in the region of PA we have our camp.
The best thing about Vortex is their warrenty. And thats a good thing because your apt to need it.
My son bought one about 5 years ago to put on his recently built 338, mainly because of the features it had along with the good price. I installed the scope and tightened down as ive always done. But I couldn't bore site it because the windage adjustment wouldn't work. So I called Euro Optics where he had bought the scope, and within a few hours a
Vortex rep called me. He asked if I had the gun/scope handy and I said yes. He instructed me to loosen the scope rings and then check to see if the adjustments worked, and they did. He then said you need to buy an inch pound torque wrench and tighten the rings to 15 inch pounds max. So I went on line and bought a Wheeler torque wrench and then followed his instructions. Problem was that the recoil caused the scope to slide in the rings. Even with a few pounds more torque we managed to get and still have adjustment it still slid, and they were rings with 6 screws in top, 3 on each side. So the issue is thin tubes, and with heavy recoiling guns that matters. The scope was removed and put back in the box where it remains. There have been many unkind reports on them on some of the various websites I visit. I would suggest another brand scope, and there are today many of them to choose from.
For dialing for long distance, Sightron is popular, as of coarse is Leupold, and then one of the very best is Nightforce.
Weve also had good success with Nikons on pretty heavy recoiling guns.

Sighted one in today for a neighbor . Dialed right in ,no problems on his 7mm-o8 . Kind of like depth finders and trolling motors . Most work ,some don't .
