I called Minn Kota and they told me spot lock was improved greatly with the Gen 2 in 2017. And, the Gen 1 motors cannot be upgraded to Gen 2. The link upgrade only allows fish finder to talk to trolling motor and adds jog function, but does not make it more accurate.

Great catch. I agree with you about those fish being in the same area since June. I'm an ole MS feeshrman and made my first ever trip to Guntersville last thanksgiving. Fell in love with the place! Awesome lake, great scenery, and nice people. Caught some dang nice fish spider rigging creek channels. Keep slamming them!

next time your longlining thru 8 feet just tie on a 1/32 jig and don't put as much line out and go a little faster. I have long lined in the back of coves in 2 to 3 feet of water and caught fish without hanging up, just lighter, shorter, faster presentation.

It wasn't the depth of the longlining that got me. It was the big ol stump or rock or whatever these fish are holding on. I pulled jigs in 2 feet of water a good bit this spring but that was over the top of grass, not where stumps are.

Gen 2 has Bluetooth capabiliy and a separate GPS puck that mounts on the back of the boat to allow for the jog function and a more accurate fixed position. Just don't try to use it under a bridge. It also allows control with a smart phone which is great when the remote batteries die or you need your partner to drive briefly.

I don't fish bridges much but I haven't had this problem yet. Please feel me in before I make the same mistake

Don't try to use spot lock under a bridge. You'll lose GPS signal and staying in the boat is like riding a bull. That thing went crazy on me.

I don't fish bridges much either, but that particular day the wind was blowing about 30 mph, it was 37 degrees and it started raining....

I wanted to stay home, but my son wanted to go fishing. Dad shoulda put the foot down that day, but my son did catch a crappie under the bridge while I was trying to ride the bull.
