I have not gotten to the point of using my Helix 10 Mega everything in simulator mode while in the comfort of my home. I figure Rickie is at the end of his patience answering my silly questions although I have to say with his tutelage I have improved immensely with my electronics. What kind of dongle do I connect to an external power source to power my unit? I seem to remember a thread discussing power sources and I have multiple electronics and laptop power systems lying around. So—dongle, power source connected to my Helix in simulator with the manual open on my iPad I should be ready to advance my learning—right? Thanks to all for sharing your knowledge.

Just figured out the app does not like an apostrophe or a dash. Sorry.

You need another HB power cable ...
    https://www.humminbird.com/Products/PC-11/

    And a 12v converter with a minimum 1A (1000ma) output ...

These are avalaible at Walmart in the 12v cooler section ...

Haaaaa. I should have known Rickie would respond first. He has a vested interest in me learning the basics so he does not have to guide me like a newbie and take up all his valuable time. Thanks, Rickie. Dennis

The HLX MSI units suck 2.5-3 amps and the Solix even MORE.

I wouldn't beat up a 1 amp supply & risk taking out the unit if a meltdown comes to call.

I would feel safer with a 3-5- or even10 amp bench style supply especially if running it for a while!

Those wall transformers/power bricks get HOT and that's because they are teetering on the edge of failure - that's the way kids are taught to "design things" and Canepole would surely agree with that....LOL

Rickie helps a lot of people, and he helps everyone - sharing is caring, and Rickie cares.

BTW ... The Coleman 12v supply I noted in a previous post is 5Amp ...

And usually on the shelf around the coolers somewhere at Walmart ...

    Good price too.

I'm not sure I would try to pull that much from it - maybe @ 3 amps the temp could be OK...

Would not make any difference as I had ordered both parts you suggested 3 minutes after your post. When Rickie says do something I can assure you I do something. I just hope I did not order a Coleman refrigerator along with the power supply (grin).
