We don’t have any gators around here. Thank Goodness! The only problems I have when in my yak is Mr L.L. Bean in a drift boat!
A couple decades ago an Illinois man was fishing a high competition bass tournament in the south east. Florida if I recall. Back into a cove he knocked a large bee, hornet, type nest loose. So many came at him he went over the side to avoid them. Then he noticed the gators on the bank watching him. It was time to make an important decision

Living in Louisiana, gators are kinda old news. I guess it's our tendency to be afraid of what we aren't familiar with. Most of y'all probably live near bears, to us , that's scary.
Only problem you can have ( like bears) is when someone feeds them or you mess with their young( mamma). Other than that , they see you first and usually disappear. Usually , when you see gators , you're around good fishing. We're both there for the same reason.
Living in what some people would say are infested waters, I have never heard of any altercations of any kind .
If one does mess with you, give him that" I'll put you on the grill tonight" look and they'll leave.
Twice God gave man dominion over the animals , we just need to carry ourselves as such. Lol
How about a stun stick? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MJ...ID=61OTYrhSRDL
I didn't want to go there, but the water snakes will be what you'll need to gear up for. Lol . I am with you on that one!
I live in Louisiana and of all the gators i have stumbled upon in my kayak I only had two close encounters.
Bother were females, not the biggest ive ran into, that had babies swimming near by. When I hear the little babies it is just time to move on.
99% they are just checking you out wondering what you are? and why you are there? but they slowly go under and swim a distance of before coming back up.
My biggest scare has been with snakes.
They seem a bit more aggressive and can hang in the tree tops where your lure gets stuck.

You are right sugarfoot salver, I wonder is it a sick game the snakes have fun with. Lol . Most everyone I know has had a snake in the boat one time or another, but I have never heard of one getting bit.
This fella and I share the same creek several times a year he flies off the bank sinks to the bottom and waits for me to pass it only got scary one time while I was reeling in a red and he decided he wanted it to. Needless to say I let him have it and about 50 foot of mono!

i had a collection of new torpedos that all had a gator on them . Bigger the gash the better. I saved them to pass out to young boys I met to 'get them started fishing'.
I once had one charge the bank on me . I dropped my rod and run! I ended up getting the bait back, but moved a couple a hundred yards down . Ten minutes later I saw a car pull up to that spot and a carload of airmen got out and started throwing chickens in the water! That explains the charge. I ended up reporting the 9 ft gator so they could put him on the ''needs to go list ''come alligator season.
I had wanted to take a pic and send it to americas funniest videos . They( Air Force ) had a sign ' Please don't feed the alligators ' right there on the bank,..... about 4 ft from a swing set for the kids to play on!!!
