Tell ya what I THINK I know. They have eggs year around....only get serious about it during the spring. Spring eggs that don't get dropped get absorbed...pretty sure. Then the process start over again. What you're seeing is not unusual....I think!!
caught some nice fish yesterday in the 14-15" range. six of them had eggs. are these from last year or for this spring??

Yep, those are for the spring.
They are for the spring. You know we can get some early spawners in late February. That's not too far away.

A lot of the ones I'm catching in KY have eggs now to. Maybe we will have a early spring.
