90% of time I am using chartreuse heads. Thats all I can find the Roadrunner Pro 2.0 heads in locally. Rest of time whatever color I grab or unpainted.

Pink, chartreuse, red, orange, and unpainted. They all work!

Don't want to distract from the lure, so no - never use painted jig heads.

Color matters at a variety of times in the year, then the other times it doesn't matter what you put in front of them they either hate it or inhale it!
I paint all my jigs and use 4 different colors. Blaze orange, pink, chartreuse and hi viz green.

Orange, pink, and chartreuse make up 95% of my jighead boxes. Personally, I think it is the least important piece of the puzzle. But on a pressured lake or under tough conditions it could be the winning piece. As in everything related to crappie fishing, confidence is key.

I got on the paint kick a long time ago, now I hardly ever paint any except for black on my trout magnets.

Orange, black, pink and chartreuse if I feel painted is making a difference. Mostly plain lead is adequate but a couple trips earlier this year were salvaged by a neon orange jighead. I only use one rod, casting or vertical jigging method so can't comment on how it impacts trolling.

I will use several of course but If I had to choose only one color it would be orange.

Chartruse / green, when it's cool and I'm pushing. Single pole jigging, usually not painted, unless going for crackers, then red.
I have seen where color makes a difference though.....
