    I run the 55 on my Wareagle stick steer. Little longer and probably a little heavier than yours. I run 2 group 27's hooked together and find that 90% of the time it more than sufficient. I pull cranks with my big motor and tie the stick off with a bunge cord then sit in back and steer with the terrova. I see no need for the link at the added cost. Cost/ benefit ratio is way off for most of us. I would do like Wannabe said and build a shelf for added battery and go with 31's. The 27's are all I can fit in my boat since I run a 27 cranking also. I might also look at going with 1 golf cart battery. With money saved and your budget I'd get the helix 10.

    Thanks cray, the main reason I'm going to an auto or I pilot TM is to get away from using the big motor while pulling cranks, plus be a huge benefit when pushing jigs and minners in the fall and spring. Y'all have about talked me out of the link option, and was looking at the 10's as well. So just an auto pilot TM will suffice maybe? And what would be my disadvantage of buying Gen1 stuff over Gen2 if any?

    I have a MK 80, I PILOT & A MOTOR GUIDE XI5 80, THE MOTOR GUIDE IS WAY BETTER & CHEAPER!!

    Me and you have the same boat I am more of a jig fisherman but do like pushing minnows and pulling cranks I went to a 70lb hand control with the built in maximizer. I would never go back with nothing smaller I also had to build a shelf and managed to get all my batteries in the back I also mounted charger under my console had to extend the leads but you don't even know it there. If you would like you can swing by the house and see how I did mine may give you some ideas.

    Will do slabin, been waiting for you to chime in, seeing how we got the same boat and all. Curious about the battery shelf, my buddy says "well you got that cubby hole under the front deck" couldn't argue cause it is there technically, just don't know if I wanna put a battery in it... lol.

    If you don't put anything else up front, I wouldn't think twice about it! It will help when you are spider rigging and also pulling cranks! For some reason when both of us get on the back deck it takes a lil more oomph to go 1.8! Then when one of us walks up front she will cruise on about 2.2 until the person returns to the back!

    Shaft length is a major as well, deeper in the water the troller is more leverage you have to maintain speed

    Having some battery weight might help balance of the boat running as well. I would strongly recommend you get an 80#...you can just do more than a 55.

    Snubby, I had a compartment built on my front deck. Cut the deck and got both my trolling batteries are up front. Cranking battery in the rear. I just bought a used terrova and luv it. I can send you pics of what I did to my 1654 F&F I got a Lowrance right now but been thinking bout a helix. I live in Southaven. The guy that did the aluminum work for me is in OB. In that compartment I also have a 3 bank charger in that compartment also with room to spare.
    Got the 24 volt 80# thrust
