Tried to use foam for the first two resulting in the pile of 'stuff' cut off the hook with razor knife, the second pic is actually the first finished one, do like the crystal chenille but will try the foam again. Thanks for the encouragement. Haven't wet a hook in a while but grandkids and summer vacation are near.--shu

Hey I have made the foam one before too and even have some cutters for some types of ants, but you can just cut a strip, kind of angle the cut on each end and a flat nose cut across the tip of the ends. Tie it and fish it

I am telling you, mine were worse than yours and it was not near long enough ago that I can't say I was a beginner then, lol!

Make sure you post a picture of the first one you think is good. It'll have to be pretty awesome because this one looks really good to me. I'm in total agreement with Skip.

My best friend from up in Montana got a 6.5 pound westslope cutthroat on a size 22 ant that looked a lot like yours. He just knew the size 22 wouldn't hold, and he started shaking as soon as he released the trout back into the high mountain lake.

Got some better foam and tied a few this morning but my fingers weren't happy with the hackle, but this is the result for now.--shuName: P1010024.jpg

Each of those has a distinctively different look. I'm betting they'll all work. Nice job.

Hey Shu, did you get to try the ants out yet? I don't get to fish this weekend but if I sneak out I'll be chasing gills.
