Upright through the lips unless below a float, then I'll hook behind dorsal fin.

    Default Through the lips

Most of the places I fish has an underwater guy that trades minnows for crappies regardless of how they're hooked........ and he really likes minnows!

Good how-tos. I use them all. Thru the eyes good for casting or vertical rigging. Thru mouth out gill is good for trolling. Thru eye out mouth is good for trolling. Dead minners work just as good as live minners when trolling. I go thru mouth and out back of head with short shank hooks like the big bit jigheads. Fish don't know if the minner is dead if it is moving and they don't care if they's hungry.

I donnt like lip hooking. That is easy stealing for bream and yellow stripe bass. They's pick it off with one peck. Set the hook on the peck, nothin' there, bait gone. Put some meat around the hooks to beat the crooks.

I always hook mine through the lips unless I am vertical fishing with them then I hook them through the back just up from the tail where they can swim around and around until they aggravate a fish into biting them.
Be safe and good luck fishing

I have always thought this, Cane, but it seems that everybody is convinced that minners must be healthy and lively down here in Mississippi. I wonder? Any other comments on fishing with dead or almost dead minners?
