I use a variety of rods, name brands are the last thing I worry about.Length of rod depends on how I'm fishing at the moment.I carry 4 rods on my kayak at all times, two are 6-1/2 ' for casting and trolling, two are extention poles for dapping along stumps and in brush piles.I am set up for spider rigging, but my 5 speed trolling motor moves my kayak too fast.
I find having more than two rods in the water at the same time in a kayak a bit more than I care to deal with, expecialy on windy days. The biggest thing for me is I nave to have an even number of rods, and the rods and reels must match, drives me nuts if they don't
There are not many rods short enough to make fishing in a kayak easier so I just use the same rods I would use in any other situation. I have tried some pretty short rods but I didn't find them terribly preferable.
And with that, I'll see you on the water...

I know this sounds crazy but the really cheap Zebco Dock Demon at Walmart for kids is a short fiberglass rod that works great for a kayak. I take the reel off and put better reels on them. The rod will bend double, never breaks and is short and easy to use on a kayak. The combo is less than $10 at Walmart in spinning or spincast setups.

I have used my ice rods in my kayak, but they limit your casting due to them being 16-18 " long.If you want to jig or dropshot they work fine.A good length for you may be a couple 4'6" ultilights, they cast well, store well and are easy to maneuver.
4 10' Shakespeare Crappie rods for spider rigging. 1 Shakespeare 7' Light spinning rod and reel comb. 2 Mitchell Avocet rod and reel combo's round out what I carry for Crappie...and usually a couple of bait casters for bass. 7 to 8 rods is what I usually carry.

Still ain't figured out what I like either. But I've got somewhere around 70 different rods to choose from - so I experiment all the time. I have noticed that shorter rods seem easier to deal with than the longer rods - but I haven't completely given up on them yet. SO - it kinda depends on what I'm fishing for and how I plan to fish...
Doesn't help much - probably comes down to personal preference mostly... Good Luck.

I use rods from a short 36'' for working bridges with very light jigs (1/100) up to rods 12' for spider rigging. If I'm casting I like a 5-6'' rod as they seems to be about the right size for me. I also fly fish from my kayak and have used up to a 9' flyrod but use a 7' 3wt on most trips when fly fishing.
Kayaks don't have to limit you on rod size.
