So what's the deal with bobbers that rattle? I did a quick search on this site, but didn't see a clear yes or no as to whether they help us catch crappie, or scare them away. I found a couple of the yellow orange and black ones at a yard sale and bought them. The seller said that they were originally made to use with small bright colored tube jigs for California stocked Rainbow trout. What are people's opinion of them? Seems like they would help crappie zero in on the bobber itself in muddy water but not necessarily the jig that is suspended down several feet below it.

With all the noise I make in my boat, I should have a bunch of crappie all around me

Fishing is a privilege...catching is a bonus. Enjoy each precious moment we have to experience our great outdoors!
Yeah me to I should have them jumping in the boat. I just started using rattle jigs but as of now have not seen any improvement in catch rate.
I've never thought of using them for crappie but I know for a fact that they are deadly on redfish. Since you brought it up, I will be trying them on crappie soon.
I have had days when the rattling jig heads out fish everything else. Done quite well with them. Not gave the corks a chance, but scaring fish would not be a concern

what causes them to rattle are they so sensitive that waves or ripples do it or do they only rattle when they hit the water ?
Because we all know that minnows and small fish make a rattle sound...
