The White Bass used to be in the Congaree River around February and we caught some huge pound to pound and half ones throwing a green crappie delight gig. Now they are gone, it was some good times in the late 80's.

Thanks for posting, it's good to know there are at least a few left.
hows this look Thumper? I was fumbling around in the barn, looked inside a old tackle box and saw these. They may be faded cause I think they were a darker green. I'd see a lot of folks have two jigs on one line, some would have a panther martin and a jig. The old box had a couple bayou boogies and several gay blades too. Ahh it's good to reminisce about the strong runs of the white bass. The biggest one I ever saw was behind the dam at Lugoff , I was trying to get some gizzard shad and saw the guy catch it. I feel sure it was close to three pounds. It'd sure be nice if DNR would stock some to help out rhe population.

You got it Sam. We caught a lot of White Bass on that jig! For some reason, that green drove them crazy.

The biggest bass I ever caught, 10lb. 9 oz., was in a farm pond with a Bayou Boogie. White with red trim!

That's pretty close to the ones Mr. Pack sold except his were cheaper with just a plain white head and no eyes. Fish didn't seem to care long as it was green.
On my Walleye rip to Canada a couple of years ago that same color jig was deadly on Walleye.

Great comparison pic! I have a similar illustration in the striper book. Amazing how similar the two fishes look! Folks need to realize the white perch are invasive to our area lakes and there is NO LIMIT on them! Catch coolers full and boat loads if you can. They taste good too. But watch out for the gill plates on either species. They are razor sharp and a defense mechanism for the fish. Don't put your fingers in the gills to hold either of these fish! Berry spoons, bottom rigs with minners, and bottom rigs with belly strips work very well for these boogers! White bass are few and far between these days...getting out competed by the immigrants from the west. Seems I read white perch were native to the Mississippi drainage.

We would use roostertails and Beatlespins with a plastic like the one you posted. Was fishing the Saluda River while they were running up the river. Love catching the white bass. The last time I night fished Russell I caught some very good size white perch, I may pull a nightstalk soon.

The story that I got 35 years ago from Don Drose at Santee was that they were brought down here by catfishermen from the Chesapeake Bay Area to use as big cat bait. I'm afraid they are here to stay.

I caught one at wateree this past spring too.

We normally catch a good many at greenwood too. My biggest ever came from greenwood and I can't remember exactly how much it weighed but it was 1.5-2 lbs
