    Why is your line getting tangled ? I use these all the time and have not had any problem.
    I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

    Why not use less weight than it takes to sink them?

    Gene you need enough weight to unwind it......remember it has counter weights in the floats to keep the wind from unwinding it.....you have to have enough weight to unwind it and overcome those counter weights. Then you need enough weight to stay down on the bottom good to hold the marker in place.

    Thanks for sharing your idea. Had everything I needed in my garage. Made 3 (a little larger) this afternoon. Gonna try them hopefully Tuesday.

    I sank one of mine out of a two pack the second time I used it. If you accidentally wind it to tight when pulling them in, the line gets wedged between its self. I realized what happened right before I threw the 2nd one.

    I had this happen too... I went back the next weekend and it had untangled and marked the spot for me

    I see you changed the style of weight on these vs. first pics. More like the store bought. Is that wheel weights?

    That 1.5 inch diameter would help them float
    Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
