Friday night football, I sure miss those days. Some great memories and life lessons learned.
Man, it's been a long time since November! Ready to watch my boys hit the field again. Harmony Grove graduated 5 very good players, but last year's junior high team was very scrappy and only lost one game so we've got some tough young sophomores who are gonna contribute. Our coaching staff is very good and have really worked hard with them. Also, most of these boys have played together since 3rd grade peewee league where they won consistently. They are pretty salty!
My son, ole John Boy #79, has lost 30 pounds since April and is now at 5'11, 280 lbs and is ready to go. I think the Hornets are gonna have a good year, but their first three games are brutal: Smackover, Prescott, and #1 ranked Glen Rose. We went back to 2A this year and are playing all new teams after that opening stretch of 3A teams. NOT making any predictions, but I figure we'll beat some teams and make the playoffs again. We shall see how it all plays out.........I'm ready. GTT

26 players and 6 coaches, seems like a nice ratio.

HG played Osceola in the playoffs two years ago in the freezing wind and cold. 5 hour trip northeast for us, but we made it and represented our team well. There were more Hornet fans there than Seminole fans. Osceola beat us that night and 6 turnovers from us really helped them out too! Coulda beat them had we played a clean game, but that's the way it goes. John was a freshman then, but started for the senior high team at center. He had a broken pinky and got it taped up and played the whole game shaking his hand and slinging it, but he couldn't sling off that pinky! Hurt him all night. Memories we'll never forget. Here's a pic of the pic that ran in the newspaper before the game. That's my baby boy!
He's pretty hard on them white perch too!

glad to hear the young one has slimmed up 30 big ones. speed and quickness usually beats size without speed or quickness. old college player and former high school coach's observation

There's no doubt his size is why he played and and held his own as a freshman. Last year, he worked on technique and felt more comfortable with his two best friends playing up there with him in the varsity ranks. This year, the coaches told him to lose some weight and hit the weightroom and he did. That boy mowed lots of yards this summer and pushed most of them, even though we have a zero turn rider. He considered it good workouts and I guess it worked. Coaches say that he IS faster and should be more of a force on defense as well. We'll see soon enough. We play a scrimmage tomorrow at Junction City! THEY are always tough! GTT
