Approach the wife? Aren't you the King of your castle? The leader of your family? Just go buy the thing. If she knows her place, she won't say one negative thing.

I know my place. It's right there in the boat. I launch it. I load it. I drove most of the 1300 mile round trip to get it. It's our main source of fun, relaxation, sports and thrills all rolled into one. Let her know much you enjoy it and get her to participate. She might just surprise you.

That is the way my wife and I did it. Except she did not launch it. My doctor told me I had to sell it after my last stroke and silent heart attack. If you have found a good woman then you will not have to ask questions on how to approach her. Instead you should involve her in all family decisions.

How do you get back in after you have been on the hi way?

Several years ago, my wife's granddad replaced his older boat with a newer model even though his wife said the old boat was still OK. A few days later, Grandma walked in our kitchen and showed my wife her "new bass boat"...a brand new multi-carat diamond wedding ring. They've been married about sixty years, so I guess they know each other pretty well...

I guess I'm lucky. My wife and I went to a local boat show to look at a simple 14 foot open (row boat) aluminum boat with a trolling motor. We left with a new G3 Eagle 170 with bells and whistles..... and it was her idea! She loves laying on the back deck reading magazines while I fish from the front.

    Gotta love that!
