I know this is prevalent all over the country, but I've never understood why you call something other than what it is?? Guess the reason I wonder is once you get a state or two away, no one knows what you are talking about.
I have friends in Ohio that persist in calling Wallyeye a Walleye Pike and they are not in the pike family. Just confuses everyone. They think Walleye are bony like pike and are not good table fare. Hey, come to think of it, maybe that was the idea all along.

I appreciate the responses and the supportive words about the drawing... and yes it is interesting to see the different names for fish species across the country, such as Sac o lait or Bag of Milk for the crappie around Louisiana and how white perch are many times called white bass or white crappie. It would be interesting to hear more about how those LA names came about too. I see Tony the Tiger has started a thread regarding this thread topic. Thanks again and may God Bless.
