I use 12 pound Berkley Trilene Big Game in the Solar Collector color as the main line so I can see it. From the weight to the crank I use a clear leader 3' long.

When using such strong line are you in danger of breaking a rod if you get hung?

The drag is set very light . When the bait gets hung I remove the rod from the holder wrap the braid around the real handle and pull out with rod pointing at snagged lure

Always set the drag light. I used spinning reels. I can always palm the spool if I need to add some drag. It has been my experience that you don't hang up very often pushing. I believe the weight hits whatever is in the path and helps deflect the crank bait around the object. I have pushed cranks in some stumpy areas

Wow, you guys run heavy line and heavy, heavy wgts............most we use in
Florida waters would be around 1 - 1 1/2 oz. most of our lakes are shallow like
bowls up side down.........very very little sturcture.

Probably why we use lipless cranks vs bigger model 200 & 300 bandits.

When not pulling cranks, most of long-line set ups are doubles 32nd & 48ths,
probably no more than 60' back - we use tie off on reel spool with 2 extra cranks.

As far as I know when pushing cranks you need the weight to keep your at a 45* angle.

As usual, I do it just a little different. I use braid to a 3 way swivel and have one leg of the swivel with a split ring and duo lock snap for the weights. Lots easier to store without the weight flopping around. 3' leader from the one leg with a snap on it to make changing colors quicker and easier. Been longlining this weekend trying to see if the summer pattern is here yet, and it's not. Next time out I'll be back to pushing from the front, love the maneuverability. It's even better that I have been painting my own since the wife bought me an airbrush for Christmas. Repainting old ones found at yard sales and flea markets is icing on the cake.

I clip the weight on also. I just clip it into a regular swivel.

I went to do-it trolling sinker with crain swivel on one end and crain snap swivel on the other makes changing baits easyer.
