first time on Reel Foot?? hire a guide!!
I am planning a trip to reelfoot. My first trip to this highly talked about lake. We will be going at the end of March. Never been and I am looking for any advice to help this lake live up to its reputation. Any advice is appreciated from where to fish, what to fish with, where to get bait, who to talk to for the best info, etc.
Again I appreciate all the advice!

Blue Bank Resort. Since you've never been, see if you can get Billy Blakely to guide you on your first day. He has great knowledge of the lake and can keep you out of trouble.
Check the Tennessee board. it's full of good info!
A person should learn something new every day!
We always stay at Cypress Point. Bait comes with the package. They have a bait shop at the resort. The dock hands are always good about giveing you the areas to find fish, never steered us wrong yet. We take our own boat. The rentals that come with the package are barebones boats. We use double minnow rigs and double jigs tipped with minnows. Some days one out fish the other but have done well with both. Good place to start is off Green Island point that time of year. Be prepared to fish close to others. There will be a lot of boats. Good luck and watch for the wind it gets rough.
I would get a guide. Little things make a big difference on this lake. What ever you do don't make the mistake of thinking you KNOW the boat lanes and run fast or you WILL need a new lower unit. Take your time and enjoy one of the prettiest lakes in the US. Bo

Yea man, if you can afford it, for your first time, hire a guide. We have went to Reelfoot several times. Its our annual trip. The info you will get from your guide, based on your questions, is worth its weight in gold. A few names to Google before you go to get some great info...Ronnie Capps, Billy Blakey (might need a translator), Jackie Wayne Van Cleave, and Josh Gowan. They all have videos offering information for crappie fishing specifically at Reelfoot. Its a beautiful place, enjoy!
