Not sure I trust it that much, but the idea is really really cool.
20-30' is about the best you will get, and that will vary with wind strength. The only thing I use mine for is if I want to cast to an area, I spotlock and cast. It also works good for those days when the ramp is crowded....just hop off at the ramp and guide it out in the middle, then hit spotlock. Still blows people's minds tho to see it cruising around with no one in it.

You just gonna sit there an argue, or fish?

I have a 20 ft center console pontoon with 20 rod holder set up. I love love the spot lock. It keeps me know it or real close. I can set it and go anywhere on the boat and not worry like I used to without it. Not sure what your problem is maybe call mind kota

Can you record a track with the motor stowed? PD so it has power. Or does the head have to be horizontal to get signal?

I have not tried this but I think you could put it in the deployed position with the motor all the way up out of the water and turn it on, but set the speed on zero. Then I think you could push record and run the path with your outboard. I am not sure how fast you could run to do this, it may not be able to process at 50 MPH, but I would think it would work at 15 to 20 MPH.
Again, I have not tried this, but I don't see why it would not work. Just be sure your TM is set to zero. You can damage the motor if it is run out of the water. I think it overheats if run out of the water, least that is what I have always understood,
Let us know if you try it, I just have not had a chance yet to see if it works.

I know it will work that way, I was wondering if it would do it with motor Stowed.

When mine is stored it cuts off not only the TM but the remote will not activate. I don't think it will work other than what I mentioned, be nice if it would plus you could store anchor points as well.
