    Default Kerr-Eastland-Some nice ones.

I arrived for my debut at the Eastland ramp at Kerr this morning just after 8:00. I started out pulling crank baits for a mile or so without a bite, but more importantly, I didn't see any fish on my fish finder. I switched over to spider rigging and long lining. I worked my way into a cove and on the way out I caught my first crappie at the coves entrance.

I worked the area vertically but did not get a bite so I moved on. While long lining in 17'-20' water I caught 3 really nice crappie. Of my four biggest, 3 hit a Cajun Cricket Bobby Garland Baby Shad (BGBS) (I tipped my jigs with dead minnows) while the other hit a black/pink BGBS. It was a rare moment when I spotted fish on my fishfinder. I thought I was at Western Branch.

I ended up only catching 13 crappie but my top four were the biggest I have caught recently.

    14" 1lb 9oz
    13.5" 1lb 6oz
    13.5" 1lb 4oz
    13" 1lb 5oz

Of the other 9, one was 12.5" and 1lb 1oz with three or so around 11" and the others were 10" or less. I picked up a few spider rigging around 10' deep but I don't think I caught a crappie in less than 17' of water. I worked the shallows without so much as a bite.

The few brush piles that I found I could only pull one or two small crappie off them.

I ran into Roy on the lake (nice to meet you Roy) around mid day at which time he informed me that he hadn't even gotten a bite yet after launching around 9. I hope his luck improved.

I saw temps as low as 33 on my way to the lake and it was 38 when I put in. Water temp was 52 early and warmed up to 59 in the back of the coves.

I really liked Eastland and am looking forward to pulling crank baits there when the water warms up.
