Default Walker's Dam damaged? Lake down?

Was checking out one of the smaller bass fishing forums I look at and saw this reply:

"Went out on Chick today water temp was in upper 60's. Also there seems to be a hole in Walkers Dam. The lake is VERY low and is continues to drop. Does anyone know anything about this."

Does anyone know anything about that?

'Shoer or someone close, can ya'll swing by and snap some pictures??

    Default You heard right

They shut down the dam Mon night. I heard a crack but the lake is supposed to be WAY down so I would think a breach of some kind. I heard you can still launch in the river but the locks are closed and I am sure the fishing from the dam is history. Told me at the gas station this AM that divers were going down today. I may swing by there and get a pic or 2 later, got a light day
thank goodness, did 17 yesterday and feel like someone beat me with a
    shovel.
Wonder if this is leaving a mess of eggs high & dry. Hate to see a poor year class there because of this.

I'll be dammed. It would be great if just one person were to give a dam right now cuz it sure sounds like they could use one.

ekim I didn't make it there and tomorrow looks slim, busy day.

That's okay man, I work at the I-64 / I-295 intersection, just off Route 60....so Eagle's Landing isn't too far from me. I'll probably zoom down there on my lunch break and snap a few pictures.

I'll post them tomorrow afternoon after work.

    Found this today

Walkers Dam is off-limits after a significant breach was found in the structure of the dam earlier this week.

"We know it's a significant problem, but we don't know how significant the repairs are going to have to be," said Karen Levy of Newport News Waterworks.

Levy describes it as a breach, and says that, somehow, the dam is failing. Workers picked up on the trouble Monday when they realized there was an almost even level of water on both sides. Normally, it would be higher upstream than it is downstream.

"You could see a pattern of the water that is not usual around the dam, and there was some piling that was disturbed," said Levy.

Engineers won’t even guess what caused the damage at this point.

Outdoorsmen have been sidelined to the shoreline where the herring are less plentiful. They are unable to use the catwalk and unable to secure boats to the dam as they typically would.

Forrest Seay says one needs to be closer to the deeper water to catch herring, but the new restrictions make that difficult.

"That's even worse, if you can't tie up to the locks, I mean, I guess if they think the dam's going to give away, I mean, even if you're in a boat out there, I guess you'd be in jeopardy," said Seay.

Divers will head into the lake Thursday to see how extensive the damage is. Waterworks says its customers will see no impact to service.

    Here's the latest scoop.

I went there with a buddy during our lunch break. We spoke to one of the Newport News engineers who said that it's not an actual "crack" but that it looks like the water is under-cutting the dam.

Right now they have the locks wide open to alleviate some of that pressure. Yep, right now the Chickahominy lake is a tidal lake lol.....water was going INTO the lake when we were there. If you look closely you can see the direction of the flow...and it was ROLLIN through those locks.
