    Default Ice, Ice Baby

I went fishing last weekend and the ice was the big story. I have broken ice before. You know, the crystal-thin stuff that doesn't even slow you down. But, never anything like this:

That ice was 1/2 inch thick, from shore to shore, and all the way down the river. So, we did just like the old timers talk about and drove our boats in a circle, busting ice and creating an ice-filled fishing hole about 50 yards in diameter. That is how we started, and this is how we finished...I think we did okay:

Yep, I would do it all over again...and again...and again...

    Good luck, Everyone!

Nice limit. I passed you and Jim mid-morning and we down into NC to see what was going on down there. What I found was a lot more ice than what was upriver. Iced from shore to shore 1/2"+ and that was at 11:00am. Well didn't catch much down there and worked my way back up river and slow picked a few on the way back. I changed colors and jigs late in the day and had a good run. Go figure.

I was wondering how you did. Nice seeing you on the water again. Can't beat a good run to top it off!

Were fishing a river called Northwest in Chesapeake. Va. Great pictures Dean!!! Well it turned out to be a great bite when the ice moved out. I cannot say which was better minnows or jigs. Most of the fish were caught 10 ft deep in 14 ft of water. The fish were caught on 2" Bobby garlands in blue ice and Black silver. I had a nice limit but released all fish.
