Default Sticker shock at the LCR ramp

As spawning season approaches, many veteran anglers will make your first visit to Little Creek Reservoir in several months. If you normally get a season launch pass, you'll be shocked at the cost increase. Last spring the annual launch pass was $50 for James City County residents and $80 for everyone else. This spring those fees are $75 (a 50% increase) and $113 (a 41% increase), respectively! Oddly, the daily launch pass remains at $5 (residents) and $8 (non-residents.)

If you rent one of the Park's jon boats, a TM, and one battery, you'll find the prices have increased 80% (resident) and 100% (non-resident.)

JCC Parks & Recreation must have its reasons for such steep fee increases...but improved crappie fishing can't be one of them.

Thanks for the heads up! It seems like many price increases are at a rate much higher then inflation. When I talk to my father in law I will ask him if he noticed any large increase in any of his regular bills there. I understand perhaps a 10% increase but not what you mentioned. Also I used to stop by and make a few cast off of Wallermill dock. Then a few years ago they started to charge a fee to get into the park. I am sorry but there are many poor folk that want to take there young kids to the park and play ground. Personally this is the last place i want to see a fee. Perhaps I am getting too old and tight with my money!

Its a shame with the amount of money VDGIF charges for licenses every year that these places are not owned by them......I went by the Richmond office to renew my boat and they are giving out really nice calendars that you can tell are made by professionals and not cheap. I don't want a calendar give me more free access to lakes

The arrangement at LCR is more complicated than most other lakes. The City of Newport News owns the lake. Newport News Waterworks manages water quality, DGIF manages the fishery, and James City County Parks & Recreation Dept. manages the only public access to the lake.
