    Check here

    Virginia Lakes - Tidewater/Eastern

Should be something to suit his needs. I'm sure the local guys will chime in. I'm about 2 hours west of Norfolk.

All my fishing buddies have died so after it warms up a little I would be glad to take him fishing.

Lake Meade and cahoon in suffolk. There is a launch for both lakes off of pitchkettle rd with a small shop that rents out Jon boats as well.

Have your son check out the pond on Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek (Lake Bradford). He can either fish from shore or he can rent a jon boat right around the corner at MWR. That little lake is loaded with great bass and crappie (plus the odd walleye). Spring, early summer and fall are great times to fish that lake.

As for Lakes Meade/Cohoon, they are both loaded as well. As previously mentioned though, the shore fishing is very limited. He would be better off to rent a boat and trolling motor at the tackle store to hit one of those lakes.

Also, as noted above, Lake Smith is open again. As with the other waters mentioned, it's loaded with fish. However, the shore fishing is somewhat limited and generally very packed. There is no boat rental on Lake Smith, but it's a very short drive from the base at Little Creek where he can rent one.

On a final note, if he lives in Virginia Beach he is surrounded by neighborhood ponds. I have yet to find one in this area that doesn't have a healthy population of bass. He just has to get permission to fish, which can actually be very easy in this area (especially if he mentions he is active duty).

Tell him about this site so he can sign up and we can continue to give him some help. We also appreciate his selfless service.

Lightbulb Freshwater fishing in Virginia Beach area

Yes sir there is. A natural area created right on the border of Norfolk and Virginia Beach on Northhampton Blvd. It is named Lake Lawson / Lake Smith Natural area. Has shore fishing, and a boat ramp. A freshwater fishing license is required in VA>

Also there are quite a few areas in Chesapeake and even more in Suffolk. I like to fish at Lake Cohoon and or Lake Meade in Suffolk VA. All are near enough for your son to go and have a great day fishing.

If he is on leave, he can go to Smith Mountain lake, apartments, campsites and cabins are available and there is also Lake Gaston on the SW Border of Virginia with North Carolina.

I am in fact looking for a fishing partner who can do all of the heavy lifting. I'm not able to get all of the stuff to where it needs to be, but I will pay for all supplies, Ice food, Boat rental, Bait etc
