Default 1442 vs 1448 Jon help please

I sold my 1436, but kept the Nissan 9.8 motor. I'm looking for something a little more stable at drift (TM) and anchor. After months of not finding much worthwhile on CL, I have pretty much narrowed my choice to either the Alumacraft 1442 or 1448 NCS (no center seat). I guess my question is, is the 1448 worth the extra $200? Or is the 1442 a very noticeable improvement over the 1436? Thanks for any and all help or opinions.

I have a 1442 NCS that my father in law left me.There is a big difference in a 36 & 42. I have also owned a 1448. For $200.00 more I would get the 1448. The wider, the better..

I have a mod v 1448 I bought from Ed's marine, you can literally stand on the edge to pee. If you hook a big fish two anglers can lean over one side without any worries, I'd go 48 but if I had it to do over I wouldn't have gotten a center bench in it. Also eds will put an aluminum floor and sides in for extra $... My 9.9 4S Mercury pushes the boat 16-17 mph by myself, 11-12 loaded to the gills with tackle and two guys.

Good info...I'm leaning towards the 1448. Pretty excited to customize a floor, cooler/ live well set up etc... w/o the center bench. PP, any closer pics or info/ intel on your front TM? I can't see the bracket or how its rigged. Was the base an option or did you rig it yourself? Thx

Go wider! wider is better! Its like a motor, You want the most HP you can afford. You also want the biggest hull you can afford. The last thing You want to do is get a boat and then wish You had gotten the bigger hull. Never heard anyone say they wish they had bought a smaller hull.CF

The trolling motor bracket and bow light bar was fabricated and welded by a friend, they are both rock solid.. I'm actually considering asking him to put in an aluminum floor for me, I did it with 1/2 plywood and black outdoor carpet, has done well for 5 yrs but I'm considering diamond plate with rubber mat over em. Kinda like those industrial anti fatigue mats.

Check out eds marine all their prices are listed online. They quoted me $4300 over the phone for my rig and I got out the door for $4303

Sorry I dont know how to make the pics come out in the right order. This boat had a center seat. Immediately after purchasing it, I did this. (you shouldve seen the look on my wifes face when she sees me with a sawzall on a brand new boat!) The split rear seat I highly recommend. It allows for so much more usable space. This boat is a small /poor mans version of Taps Lund.

As PP says, the tradeoff is speed vs. safety. I vote for safety every time. Narrow boats can be tippy and that increases the chances you will lose your balance and go over the side.
