Default NWR-11 crappie and 4 yellow perch.

I'm still new to winter fishing at the NWR so I've got bit of a learning curve to deal with. Winds were nearly dead calm all morning.

No ice near the ramp but there was some light ice covering about 60% of the river all the way down into NC. I only picked up 1 crappie near the state line, 4 down in NC, 4 more at JimB's structure he sank a few years back, and 2 more drifting.

My two biggest crappie were both 14oz and just over 11". Here's one of them.

The next pic is for everyone to admire my hat. :D

Probably the smallest of the 4 yellow perch I caught.

Just about every fish I caught was caught fishing 8' deep. I think I figured them out a little bit but with the bash just around the corner I'll just have to keep that to myself. :D (anyone from out of town at the bash I will gladly tell you what I know-not that it's much)

Water temp 2' down was 40 and just under a foot down was 36-38.

Nice work Tap. I assumed not many fish would have been caught today due to the muddy water down there.

    Nope.

As far as the water goes, there was a lot of debris in the water and it was very stained with visibility less than a foot. Oddly however, later in the day about halfway between the park and Bob's the water was clearer.

I spoke with two different boats fishing for bass today and neither guy had caught a single bass.

Good post, everyone is sure looking to see if the bite is on yet.
That is a good size fish for the NWR I hope the average stays above 10". Looks like you were using jigs only. I have only done well on jigs there in spring.
I plan on going tomorrow, mostly south of the border.

Glad you got to fish and catch a few. Wish I could have, but had to work a little OT today... working on the Ipilot fund. Maybe I can go tomorrow. Between the sick younguns and wife, I may have to wait till next week.
