    Talking 10/22 Blackwater

Unfortunately we didnt have any work on the books for today, so i got three doz minners and headed to barretts landing. First thing i noticed when i pulled up was the leaves all over the river, and worse they were scootin down river! Water temp was 59 but went up to 62 by the time i made it to suffolk at the 58 bridge. I fished all my usual productive spots with no luck, Between the current, wind and leaves it was down right miserable. I had to stop four times to lift the motor and clean out the leaves and pine needles because they would build up and pop the motor in neutral for some reason

Caught a tiny bass around 10 o clock then nothing.... So i went back up towards the rt 611 bridge (Gets shallower) & the water was still 59.8 degrees at 2:30! the current was easier to fight but now im dealing with a solid sheet of leaves on the water

So i drifted a good ways casting BGBS and tightlining 3 rods and pulled 1 cork. at this time ive lost numerous jigs and down to three minnows. The river dropped 12" in five hours at 4:30 I came up on some lily pads and caught a bream noticed a drop off just outside of the lily pads (went from 3 to 12 ft) and saw a bunch of fish on the depth finder right on the bottom. I dropped my tightlines to 11 ft deep. Bam bam bam three crappie in about two minutes. dang minnow bucket was empty.... and thats all folks!

Nice report Perc. The leaves will be gone soon enough, but they can be annoying.
As to your outboard.....I had an old mercury that behaved similarly. I think there's a bushing of some kind that wears out, then the leaves/debris cause the tranny to slip.
Not a very technical assessment, but I just remember I had to replace something in the lower unit to fix that. (it's been a while)

Good report and pics. The mill looks strange without all that smoke and steam pouring out. I bet I spent a good five years on various construction projects out there, worked 120 day straight on the woodyard expansion, made a good dent in my wife's tuition that year. Sure hope for the people of Franklin they do something to get that place back open.
