jigs under bobbers huh? Ive tried that technique many times with no success... At least yall didnt go home with a skunk on the boat:D Pretty day for a boat ride
The wife and I played hooky from work today. We went to Chick Lake for a boat ride and a little fishing after we got the youngest sent off to visit his brother at VA Tech. His mom sure fixed him up for the trip. You would think he was going to be gone for a month rather than a couple of days. It was a little breezy but otherwise a nice day.
We practiced using jigs under bobbers in preparation for the bash since I do not use this method often. My wife got this one in one of the areas I have already told everyone about. Water temperature was 60 to 62 degrees and the water was slightly stained. Fish were caught 10 feet deep.
The action was slow so we went for a ride and to check out another location I have heard about that is good for crappie this time of year. I saw many schools of fish right on the bottom at this location using my 997. We only had a short time to fish it and got several bites before we had to leave but they were dropping the jig before we could set the hook. My plan is to go back either tomorrow or Sunday to see if this location is still holding fish. I will offer this location to folks attending the bash at the ramp if I do well there. I don't want it to get fished out before the bash so folks have a better chance of getting into fish on bash day.

Jigs under bobbers is my #4 preferred method behind titelining jigs, longlining jigs, and casting jigs. Jigs under bobbers is a good way for a slooowwww presentation. Tipping with minnows falls behind these methods.

Jigs with bobbers is very popular in Minnesota. I got a bunch of video with my Lund and that seems to be the main way most folks up that way fish for crappie. It's good to see you and the wife out on the water.

PANMAN USED THE BOBBER AND JIG WHEN I FISHED LAKE WYLIE IN N.C. USED A 1/6 jig WITH A PLASTIC TUBE CALLED A FLICKTAIL. IT COMES IN ALL THE GOOD COLORS.ONLY ONE PLACE TO BUY IT. BASS SHACK SHELBY N.C. WHEN THE BITE WAS LIGHT I WENT TO 1/32. GOOD LUCK AT THE BASH TO ALL.
We use that jig and bobber method alot over here on the eastern shore we even troll that way in the shallow water over here it gets the jigs back away from the boat while keepin em up off the mucky bottom. Works great in cold weather for a slow suspended presentation.
Jigs under bobbers very good technique used when fishing lakes in known productive areas....generally in my approch used in a fanning cast of the area to help locate fish with my el cheapo depth finder and ever aging mind of rememberance...
Jigs are big producers of schooled fish when minners are more reluctant to perform in a cast an retrieve situation due to spinning and revival it seems due to pressure put on the bait.......
jigs and bobbers also present theirselves in a more dormant fashion wich imho creates strikes......
good job Pan good to see you and the misses out ..........minnows hooked right work for me best though........and the ones caught local are the best.......its a hatch thing:D
Thanks for the report Keith!
Big jig/bobber fan here. Usually use that technique in shallow water, cast and slow retrieve. As stated above, you can make a very slow retrieve without your jig sinking to the bottom.
Do gooder since April 26, 2009!
when next spring comes around in the pre spawn period i look for crappie in shallow water with a jig/bobber technique and i troll fast where the jig is running maybe 1 ft deep. i use this method starting in feb. works in all waters. give it a try tite lines JIM.B
