    Default Bream Bash....Results

    Such that they are.
Met up with Tahoe, Tahoes Sidekick, Tapout, Percidae and Slaphappy at the ramp. Nice meeting you guys, except Tap, (who I've already met many times) :D Make a note of this, when AndyCurtis says "I'll be at the ramp between 7 and 7:30, he means 7:59:59.
At any rate, the bite was slow by all accounts. A mediocre day at best. Talked to Tap at the ramp at weigh in time. He said he'd caught 20 somthing crappie, a bluegill and a bowfin. I directed him downstream to some laydowns I know of. Maybe he'll chime in with how he did.
Now for the guts and glory. It appears as if Team Quacker won by default. In this case, de fault of no other participants bringing a bream to the weigh in. Percidae and Slaphappy said they had motor problems, and went to get it looked at.
We caught a ton of small mixed bream. Keepers were few and far between.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, it was HOT! Brought home about a dozen to eat.
Here's the one I would have weighed in, had there been another contender.
Looking at the picture, I appear to have the ruler too far to the left, so I guess it might be technically "citation length". Not by weight though. Came in at 14 oz.

O it would have been close les, had i not thrown my shellcracker back, I had one nice one and a boat load of dinks. One pound and a half Channel cat and had a gar chase my bobber to the boat, My dad had something explode on top twice at his bobber the second time it broke the line! But when that red light came on on my motor, My temper flew hot! (Being that i just picked it up yesterday after three weeks of anticipation) I checked the oil it was fine, then noticed the carb to choke linkage was not even attached, Grrrr!! I got it on and still couldnt figure out why the light kept flickering. So about 11:45 I pulled out and shot over to BPS, I convinced the mech to take a look while i was there after swithing the module, checking waterpump and oil press sender he found the culprit, A SPARK PLUG WIRE WAS OFF!!! so the shop manager gave me a signed sheet for one free hour labor and $25 off next service. BPS & Tracker marines customer service is excellent, So we stopped by Burnt mills to give it a whirl, The motor ran great! So whens the next bash?

The bite was slow for me. I ended up with 16 crappie of which most were dinks and one was maybe 11". I also caught 5-6 small bluegill, one bass, one gar, one bowfin, and one silver cat. The cat was fun. I was marking arches just under 20' so I threw out my jig, counted to 20, reeled her in and the cat hit it. Not a monster but decent size. Something big hit my jig 10' down on a laydown. It was probably a 3lb crappie.

I greatly enjoyed being able to run my big motor. That also has to be the largest parking lot I've ever seen. Never a worry about a parking spot. Two very nice ramps as well. I can see how that river would be enjoyable during the colder months when the water bugs are not out.

    Good seeing everyone.

As Les said Ron and I ran late. We launched as the bash left. One reason out of many is I forgot to get bait Friday so we had to stop by Franklin. I got a tube of crickets and a tub of worms. I don't know how many you get in a tube but I had about 30 left in my cricket bucket when we left at 11 or so. We ran down to the lower Nottoway and fished around the point into and up the Blackwater to the first bend. We then came back into the Nottoway and fished above dockside area. We caught a ton of small and I mean small bream. Not one keeper. Both rivers seem eat up with small bream just don't know where the bigger fish are at. About 11am the heat was beginning to build and if out of the shade you really would feel it. Sorry I missed you all at the ramp.

    Good job pullin it off.
Hey the very 1st bash a 7 oz monster of a shellcracker took big fish honors. You think Pan looks a little peaked & down from the crud you shoulda seen him that day after his research had conclusively indicated we should fish where, when, & how we did and get the OK at LCR for a news chopper to land and photograph the pig that was gonna take top honors!
Glad ya all got together and sounds like it was fun if not on the cool side. Good pics.

Next full moon comin up later in the month. 26th
I resisted suggesting that we move yesterday's bash to Burnt Mills, then I thought on the way home, there's so many going there already, what's the difference? Mixed species? BM? 26th? Just a thought. (starting earlier?) If I'm out of line, just ignore this post.
