The size should be 8.75. I could eat regularly then.
If the size limit was raised to 12", the average size of fish would increase, more would spawn too.

The size limit is not what any fisherman on both Ky and Barkley lakes needs to be worried about. We need to be very deeply concerned about the Asian Carp, and begin asking where the bottom of this problem is so that we can prepare for the worse because we are headed down a very scary road for our crappie and all of the native fish.

I think that if we lighten up on stuffing our freezers full of fish and let them have a better spawn, there will be more crappie fry to compete with the carp fry for plankton and more 10" crappie to eat the carp fry. I'm going to Mississippi next week to catch some slabs with shoulders on them, they have them partially because they have a 12" min size limit and 15 fish per day. If anyone is fishing solely for their next meal, they are going about their next meal the hard way.

I get to practice viewing a lot of big arches and big white dots on my sonar. The fish doctors have no answers and only feed us BS. This problem has been here for a long time and just getting worse. Illegal aliens they are.

I believe that your sadly mistaken on crappie fry battling it out when we truly don't know the true density or population of the Asian carp.
But, try this on for a moment. Under good conditions a single carp female can produce up to 1,000,000 eggs where an average female crappie can produce 40,000 eggs.
The Asian carp can have up to 3 spawns in a given year, so the shear numbers of carp vs the crappie is completely out of balance. This simple data out numbers your statement of fry vs fry for the food chain.
Also, the average crappie grows 3-4 inches in its first year, where the average Asian carp grows up to 18 inches in its first year.

I disagree. The state biologists have done a multitude of studies on this topic. The primary reason for a 12" min. in Mississippi is because their growth rate exceeds their maturity rate. At 10" they haven't spawned yet, hence the increased size minimum. More fish does not guarantee a better spawn. There are too many other factors in play.
Yep, drought or not much rain fall is what they say contribute to bad years. The sad part is people who come to the meetings and see the creel data don't care anything about it.They only care if there catching fish or no.The lake clearing up and the carpet are changing where the fish are caught and how, just my opinion but I'm not a biologist.
