Default Drumking was a loner today. 2/27/2018

This was a banner day for me today. It turned out to be one of the best limits of crappie that I have caught alone. Wish that I had been in a tournament today. Grin. I had 4 fish over 13 inches with the biggest at 13.75". I had 5 more that were up to 12.75", and 3 that were over 11". I threw back a couple of 10" keepers, and had 9 shorts today.

I really rely on the solunar tables to point out when I need to be fishing. Of course, the best time to go is when you can. The tables said 10-12 with a peak at 11:00 today was the major movement. It was a 4 fish movement according to my fishing time watch. LOL I hit the water at 10:45 and ran to a certain dock that I'm sort of fond of. I had 6 keepers up to 12.5" there and 7 shorts.

Then I moved on to some off shore cover in a completely different part of the lake and caught two more keepers in the 11" range and another short. Although I thought that the float and jig would not be productive, I had to try anyway. So, I ran to the area that we were catching them last week, and the fish were not shallow. So, back to my last spot which is an offshore spot just on the edge of the river current that was running 95,000 CFS. This is where I caught all my biggest crappie.

I knew that the fish were there as we had caught a couple of nice crappie there last week. The river current made it tricky. I had to position my boat 3 times to get to the perfect spot for the presentation that the fish wanted. When I finally hit the right combo, it was game on. The fish were active and fought hard in the current . Here is a little tip for you fishermen that have trouble catching fish in current. Move your boat around just a little bit and try different angles on your casts to find what the fish want.

The water was stained up a little more than the last time that I fished because of the hard rain that we got a day or so ago. I tried 4 or 5 colors, but I knew what would work. Full Moon Bobby Garland Slab Slayers on a 1/16" jig head and also a Bass Assassin Pro Tiny 2" Chicken on a Chain. Both were hot lures today. OH yeah, the fish were right at 14' deep today. Water temp when I quit at 2:30 was 57.6 degrees.

Nice stringer! Yeah, the solunar table missed it on Loudon today too. It said today was a two out of four, but they were on fire, and I caught active fish from daylight until I finally left around noon.
