Another good trip. Thanks for the report.
Dr Phil called me last night and even though the threat of rain was in the forecast, we decided to go this morning if it wasn't a monsoon rain. Part of the time that we were out, there was no rain at all. Misty at times, but it finally did begin to rain. We fished until about 11:00 AM. Thank goodness for good rain suits.
The technique was the same as we fish for bluegills all the time. Drop shot method with a number 6 Aberdeen hook about 12" above the smallest Bass Casting sinker that I can find. It may be 1/8 oz. We baited with wax worms and put a power bait crappie nibble on it and cast all around the boat in every direction. There were fish everywhere.
Dr Phil caught 4 Blue catfish and lost 2 others. I had one break my 4 lb test line after a 20 second fight while it was pulling drag like crazy. Bummer. We took home 20 nice Bluegills between 8 and 9.75 inches long. I almost had the TARP bluegill that I need. When Phil first saw it, he said that it was 10 inches long. But when we put it on the ruler, it was just slightly under the 10" size that is required for a TARP certificate. I'll get one before I quit fishing, I'm sure.
We came home, cleaned the fish, gave Phil 20 fillets and I kept 20. We both are making Bluegill salad. Mine has already come out of the oven and cooling down as we speak. Grin. I'm thinking crappie fishing tomorrow.
Another good trip. Thanks for the report.
