this will be mine and my new wife first valentine together and she wants to go fishing, lucky me, and we are thinking about a dock shooting trip to Chick if warm enough. What is it like in the middle of feb. there?

My better half and I fish the "Chick" every Valentine's Day. Our best V-day trip was 66 crappie in '13. The pre-spawn -- was on. Water temperature was 48 degrees and crappie were "very" tight to the bottom in 15-20 feet. As of right now crappie fishin' on the Chick...stinks ! I hope it's much better in a few weeks for your trip.

Come on over. You'll love it. The temperatures are fine that time of year only a little chilly first thing in the morning when funning the big motor. The masses are not out yet like they are in March and April so the lake is less crowded. You should be able to catch plenty of fish that time of year as well. I don't shoot docks very often and generally long line troll jigs that time of year. Last year I fished on 2-20 (the date closest to 2-14 that I fished) and caught a nice bucket full of keeper crappie with lots of toss backs and yellow bass. I was in a creek long lining jigs in 8-12 ft. of water and only fished a couple of hours because my young son was with me. I hope this is a help to you and congratulations to you for catching a wife that likes to fish.
