No but I don't pull cranks though.
Do y'all use line counter reels for long lining? I'm wanting to use the same rods & reels & line for both long lining & pulling cranks. Any else one do this? If so what size line?
No but I don't pull cranks though.
Most use spinning reels for longing. Easy to cast light jigs. Quick to get baits into the water. 6 pound test is the most frequently used line.

I don't use my line counters or longlining. A few reasons but the main reason is I use braid for pulling cranks but I like a 6lb hi-vis for longlining. You have to be able to break a line quickly for hang ups and that isn't happening with braid. The second reason is that I don't really count out the line I use for longlining anymore, I go by my throw out distance to know how the jig will run. At times I do still see times when I count out the line but not many.

6# hi vis line here for longlining. If I was pulling those expensive cranks I'd do like stump and use braid.
Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing.
Spinning reels and 6# test line here. A good cast and an extra lift of the rod to remove loose line and there set.
I would recommend Vicious Hi-Vis in 6# test. As for as reels, I use at least a 3 bearing open face spinning reel on all my longlining rigs.

My 2cents. I prefer baitcasting reels for all my trolling. Tight line to longline. I mostly longline. Spoiled with high vis braid and I use a 4# -6# mono leader. Breaks off way easier then mono. No stretch. Sharpie to mark the 50' spot on line. Gives me a starting point. When I'm pulling cranks I move up to 8# -10# leader. I do wish I could afford to switch over to all line counter reels. I'm using my old green carp reels.
